We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Welding Engineer to join our EMS Construction/Manufacturing Engineering group located in Tupelo, MS.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads and acts as a subject matter expert on weld engineering EMS projects, and ensures ‘Best in Class’ weld operations.

  • Works with design engineering and project management to ensure the weld-ability of assemblies and structure.

  • Ensures drawings contain proper weld attributes and comply to weld contractual specifications.

  • Develops weld procedures and approves vendor submitted weld procedures.

  • Provides direction for fabrication of welded assemblies at the vendor's facility and on the shop floor in GA’s manufacturing facility.

  • Responsible to recommend and implement advanced welding technologies and techniques.

  • Responsible to support Manufacturing Engineers; as well as, to interface with customers, vendors, and the shop floor to resolve all weld issues.

  • Works with QA to conduct weld audits on the shop floor and at vendor's facilities and ensure compliance to NAVSEA Technical Publication S9074-AR-GIB-010/278.

  • Utilizes understanding of AWS, ASME, and Technical Publication 278 welding.

  • Demonstrates understanding of U.S. Navy program acquisition, shipbuilding, ship design, and construction.

  • Train and oversee a production staff.

  • Maintains fabrication shop practices to meet all operating procedures and code requirements.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • US Citizenship is required.

  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.

  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance is required.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.
