We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer Lead with our Engineering Department located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determines technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solutions for systems engineering projects at General Atomics Electronic Systems.

  • Leads the internal and external technical project/program reviews including preliminary and critical/detailed design reviews to ensure they meet defined product requirements.

  • Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.

  • Acts as an expert in identified design solutions for Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and subsystems. Should be able to identify the issue, propose the solution, develop the design update and implement the design update accordingly.

  • Provides technical leadership in developing system level electrical designs upgrade for current sustainment projects to resolve component obsolescence issues.

  • Leads the activities of assigned systems engineering projects to achieve technical objectives.

  • Determines areas of system improvement, including test programs and required test data, to reduce risk while ensuring compliance, reporting, and safety standards are maintained.

  • Assures that electrical designs meet the highest standards of safety and quality while meeting budget and schedule.

  • Participates in the internal and external technical project/program reviews including preliminary and critical/detailed design reviews to ensure they meet defined product requirements.

  • Troubleshoots conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.

  • Addresses complex and difficult technical issues in Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) and PCBA. Update schematics, drawing from advanced engineering concepts and/or highly creative approaches.

  • Provides focal point for technical communication within the company management and may represent the Company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.

  • Presents report(s) at engineering meetings, participates in program reviews and consults on problems.

  • Reviews requirement matrix and/or statement of work to generate basis of estimates in support of customer proposals.

  • Participates in the planning, selection, retention, and development of the professional staff. Mentors less experienced technical staff in all aspects of systems engineering. May direct and allocate technical resources and professional staff to achieve objectives.

  • Develops new and/or expands existing business opportunities.

  • Aides in developing proposals and budgets.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, ten or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.

  • Ability to mentor junior engineers.

  • Knowledge in PCB design and in selecting electronic components to support the design application.

  • Knowledge in data analysis, troubleshooting subsystem failures and experience providing engineering reports.

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals; the capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.

  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self- initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.

  • A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium, and invited and/or participated on an engineering review panel are desirable.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
