We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior HR Employee Relations Investigator to join our team, located in La Jolla/Torrey Pines, CA. With consultative direction, within Human Resources, this position is responsible for leading investigations in our Employee Relations Center of Excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Independently lead and conduct complex investigations into unlawful workplace activity, perceived unfair treatment and violations of company policies and procedures in an efficient, thorough and professional manner.
Respond to internal complaints presented through various avenues, including the Integrity Hotline, email, and direct calls, in a timely manner.
Conduct interviews of employees and others, often involving sensitive subjects.
Collaborate with other investigators to conduct investigations. Work both independently and with other investigators on initiatives for investigative enhancements and process improvements.
Author detailed professional reports in a timely manner and maintain well-organized and accurate case files.
Prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining positive customer and client relations.
Interface, as necessary, with executives on investigative matters.
Maintain strict discretion and confidentiality.
Provide creative solutions to issues and work to resolve employee relations issues with comprehensive knowledge of company policies, procedures, practices and all state, federal, etc. labor laws and regulations.
Develop and present training programs related to relevant Employee Relations or Investigative topics.
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Ability to be flexible with work-hours in order to respond to urgent issues and to the situational needs and requirements of the workload.
Perform other duties as assigned e.g. special projects, trends and key performance indicator analyses.
Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Training or a related discipline and ten or more years of progressive professional experience in a corporate Human Resources department. May substitute a certificate in human resources from a recognized organization and equivalent experience in lieu of education.
Proven investigative experience to include: conducting interviews; locating, reviewing and analyzing data; preserving evidence; and producing cohesive and thorough written reports.
Excellent interviewing skills.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience interfacing with leadership on investigative matters.
Demonstrated and extensive technical expertise and application of human resource principles, theories, concepts and practices.
Possess the ability to contribute to the development of new processes or systems.
Must be customer focused and possess: (1) the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex employee relations matters of diverse scope and nature; (2) excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings to a variety of audiences including senior management and senior external parties: (3) excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees, including senior managers and senior external parties; (4) the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; (5) the ability to initiate, plan, and manage projects; (6) the ability to represent the company with external counsel or third-party companies for investigations; and (7) excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint; SAP experience a plus but not required.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
