We currently have an exciting opportunity for a SENIOR AIX INFRASTRUCTURE ADMINISTRATOR to join our SAP BASIS and DBA team in San Diego, CA.


  • Hardware maintenance of existing IBM equipment including Firmware upgrades, HMC upgrades, Replacement of customer swappable components ie HBAs, local disk, etc.

  • Installation, maintenance and upgrade of VIO servers running on IBM systems including the setup of SEA adapters, HBA adapters utilizing NPIV, and virtual SCSI disks and CD-ROM devices.

  • Installation, maintenance and upgrade of AIX lpars on current IBM P8 systems and any new systems that are acquired.

  • Installation, maintenance and upgrade of SuSE linux lpars running on current IBM hardware.

  • Installation, maintenance, testing and upgrade of HACMP clusters running on AIX lpars.

  • Intimate knowledge of AIX tunables and storage concepts as pertaining to Logical Volume Management.

  • Senior Level Experience with shell programming, especially C and Korn shells.

  • Responsible for monitoring systems including performance, file system growth, database tables pace growth and making system adjustments to rectify any issues.

  • Responsible for system backups utilizing mksysb, netbackup and Storix backup methodologies.

  • Responsible for High Availability, Migrations, and Disaster Recovery design as well as fail-over testing of AIX and linux systems running on current IBM hardware.

  • Maintaining interfaces to external systems via public key/ shell scripting.

  • As required, providing direction to less experienced or other professional SAP Basis Infrastructure staff.

  • Observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in information technology or related field along with eight or more years of progressive experience in at least one of the following: SAP project management and business processes, SAP configuration, SAP Development, SAP Basis, or SAP BI work, with at least three of those years in a supervisory role. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

  • Must demonstrate a complete understanding of AIX administration as it applies to SAP Basis Infrastructure principles, theories, concepts and techniques.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills including planning, scheduling and the capability to perform assignments with no direction. Required to utilize independent judgment related to processing functions and complex activities.

  • Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving environment while contributing to the development of new processes.

  • Must be capable of working to a structured work plan with aggressive milestones and have strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making ability

  • Must be customer focused, involved in long-term trend and emerging requirement analysis, with a strong conceptual understanding of enterprise-wide software

  • Must possess: (1) the ability to identify issues, analyze data and develop solutions to a variety of complex technical problems; (2) excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings; (3) excellent interpersonal skills enabling an effective interface with others; and (4) excellent computer skills. Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
