We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, highly detailed, Internal Communications Specialist to work with the Internal Communications team within the Business Communications Department supporting our Electromagnetic Systems Group. Under limited supervision, this position will be responsible for creating presentations, preparing illustrations (creative and technical), designing, editing, and preparing internal materials for printing. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining media and presentation archives and some copywriting.


  • Create time-sensitive presentations in MS PowerPoint.

  • Prepare illustrations for PowerPoint presentations.

  • Responsible for communicating and interfacing, effectively and professionally with all levels of staff, including management.

  • Collaborate with staff to ensure compliance with customer format requirements.

  • Interface with teammates, other departments within the organization, as well as external customers.

  • Assist with designing layouts, and coordinating illustrations and creative artwork for Internal Communications following specific formats.

  • Proof graphics for integration into desktop publication programs following specific formats.

  • May make minor edits in some graphics using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Edit, design, and print internal publications/media.

  • Review and edit material for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Maintain electronic and physical files for all publication materials.

  • Accurately interpret and explain complex information, and respond to complex issues or situations that require evaluation and interpretation.

  • Exercise strong follow-up skills and track work efficiently.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a high school diploma and four or more years of progressive experience in desktop publishing/word processing in a commercial or government organization or a related field. Equivalent additional work experience in publishing/word processing may be substituted in lieu of education.

  • Requires a strong working knowledge in PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, MS Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge in Visio is a plus.

  • Must display a keen eye for layout and graphic design.

  • Strong attention to detail and propensity for multi-tasking a must.

  • Must possess the ability to successfully organize, schedule, establish priorities, meet established timelines and deadlines, and coordinate multiple work phases under tight deadlines.

  • Must be capable of determining the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level; and, provide solutions to a variety of complex publishing/word processing problems while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Strong follow-up skills and tracking of work is essential.

  • Must possess a strong understanding of customer service practices and its importance for the success of our authors and the advancement and reputation of the Electromagnetic Systems Group in the international science community.

  • Must possess the ability to work well independently, and cohesively, as part of a team.

  • Able to work extended hours, as required.
