Under general direction, this position is responsible for the administration, coordination, and tracking of leaves of absence and workers’ compensation claims. Exercising judgment within generally defined precedents and policies maintains, processes, and compiles a variety of confidential and sensitive electronic and hard copy human resource records and statistics, which requires considerable use of tact and discretion in handling. Responds to general inquiries and provides routine information and guidance to employees, managers, and other authorized parties and/or agencies. Typically, assignments are routine in nature but the ability to recognize deviations from accepted practice and escalate appropriately is required.

This position is located in our Torrey Pines, CA office.


  • Following standard practices and procedures, this position is responsible for the coordination of company leaves including medical, family, military, and workers comp leaves.

  • Responds to routine inquiries from employees and managers regarding a variety of matters, some of which contain confidential and sensitive information, which require tact and discretion in handling.

  • Works with employees to provide instruction for leaves, coordinate paperwork, and follow-up with employees.

  • Coordinates employee’s return to work and facilitates meeting employee’s work restrictions and/or requests for accommodations.

  • Maintains, analyzes, updates, and develops various electronic and hard copy records to produce reports including OSHA 300 logs and other EH&S Management tools.

  • Responsible for maintaining confidentiality and following all applicable company policies and governing laws and regulations.

  • Collaborates with key business partners such as HR Business Partners & Managers and Environmental Health & Safety Engineers on employee’s work restrictions and/or requests for accommodations.

  • Other duties assigned as required.


Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resources, Organizational Development or a related discipline and six or more years of progressive professional experience in a Human Resources department. May substitute a certificate in human resources from a recognized organization and/or equivalent experience in lieu of education.

  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of human resource principles, theories and concepts and a complete and thorough knowledge of practices, techniques, and standards. Must be customer focused and possess: (1) the ability to identify issues and develop solutions to a variety of problems of diverse scope and complexity; (2) excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings to a variety of audiences including senior management and senior external parties: (3) excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees, including senior managers and senior external parties; (4) the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; (5) the ability to initiate, plan, and manage projects; and (6) excellent computer skills. Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
