General Atomics and Affiliated Companies UAV Systems Specialist in Adelanto, California

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

Under general direction, this position supports engineering and manufacturing by serving as a main technical contributor on advanced technologies including composite structures, systems, LO materials and processes, manufacturing, and other disciplines. Serves as a liaison between the engineering and manufacturing departments to promote design for manufacturing decisions and guide program paths to feasible, efficient solutions.

DUTIIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and control manufacturing process work instructions, technique job aids and evaluating and resolving issues related to manufacturing, design, quality, safety, materials, and engineering, along with supporting transition to production.

  • Monitors program development progress and analyzes, investigates, and provides solutions to a variety of technical problems.

  • Works directly with engineers to enhance manufacturability, assembly, and integration of components and subassemblies starting at initial model/drawing creation and continuing throughout the manufacturing phase.

  • Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve engineering and manufacturing problems.

  • Define shop requirements and assist with development of tooling, fixtures, and processes to support manufacturing activities.

  • Work directly with machinists, laminators, programmers, and other technical staff to solve manufacturing issues and meet delivery goals.

  • Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex manufacturing, assembly, and repair problems.

  • Acts as significant technical contributor and makes recommendations on application of materials and processes for LO features and test bodies.

  • Troubleshoots conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements of aerospace structures.

  • Investigates and resolves problem areas and collaborates with engineering, and manufacturing personnel to develop, document and implement technical solutions.

  • Supports periodic program engineering/manufacturing planning meetings.

  • Analyzes defective, damaged, or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment, and systems; develops and implements corrective action.

  • Reads, interprets, and analyzes engineering source material such as engineering drawings, test plans, design specifications/documents, and interacts with technical experts.

  • Conducts tests and records data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis and provides related technical input during design review and manufacturing readiness processes.

  • Analyzes and works through quality defects to find root causes and implements plans and actions to correct.

  • Reviews engineering specifications and drawings and confers across functional areas to provide and obtain technical information.

  • Performs design work for components, shop aids, tooling, and ground support equipment and provides related input during design review processes.

  • Develops manufacturing plans with supporting work instructions/documentation and technique job aids to support initial development and transition to low-rate initial production for new programs as needed.

  • Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions.

  • Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices Additional Functions Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of a bachelor's degree and five or more years of professional engineering/military technical and/or documentation experience.

  • Equivalent professional engineering/military technical, operations, and/or maintenance experience may be substituted in lieu of education/training.

  • Must have formal training in one or more safety disciplines.

  • Possess excellent understanding of military and/or commercial systems, a strong working knowledge of the engineering development process, and an understanding of logistic support analysis and

  • principles.

  • The ability to develop, acquire, interpret and communicate engineering technical data.

  • Develop and communicate new concepts and apply them in an evolving environment.

  • ability to organize, schedule and coordinate work phases and determine the appropriate approach at the task or project level.

  • Identify issues and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex technical problems.

  • Proficient computer operations and applications skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance is required.
